There are three types of people: Those who eat food in the supermarket before they pay, those who yell at the people who eat in the supermarket before paying, and those who don’t eat their bagel crisps before paying, but don’t say anything to their friends who do.
The people who eat in the supermarket are the risk-takers. The anti-authoritarians who fight the rules when they don’t make sense. They question, they push, and they change things.
The people who yell at the risk-takers are the order keepers. They make sure everything works according to design, and they keep the first group in line. Without these people, the risk takers would often go too far and cause some serious damage. They don’t make the moves that change the world, but they’re a necessary counter-force.
The third (and largest) group of people is made up of the individual contributors. They work 40 to 60 hour weeks, go to the office and pump out the work. We need these people to make the visions come to life. They are the the ones who are given directions and follow them, producing the work needed by the first group. They’re not the movers and shakers, but they are the foot soldiers – the queen’s loyal ants.
Without any of these types of people, society in its current form wouldn’t work.
Which type are you?
Me? Let’s just say I paid for an empty can of Arizona Iced Tea while leaving Stop and Shop today.
